Brilliant Logic!
I just read this article on Bike Portland, about a CRC report stating how a new I-5 bridge across the Columbia could be bad for global warming. This is genius:
Gross writes that “it’s unclear why we need a 10 to 12-lane bridge [one of the options on the table], and cites numerous studies that demonstrate adding road capacity does not help relieve congestion. From the article:
“When road capacity is increased, congestion is temporarily reduced, but new demand quickly increases the congestion again because people make trips they previously would not have made.
So given this Logic, I propose we reduce every two lane road (including downtown Portland) to one lane. This way no one will want to go anywhere, and Global Warming will be prevented! In fact, while we are working to make every road congested so no one wants to drive, how about we require automakers to make their seat cushions out of a bed of nails? Nothing like a poky seat to make you think twice about driving to work.
