One Trip, Two Faceplants

Filed under: Snowboarding — Sam @ 6:11 pm

Today I went snowboarding with Paul, and for the first time I tried out some black diamonds. There was one in particular I wanted to nail. I went down the first time, crashing a couple times due to the clumpyness of the snow. I would tend to get some air, then lose balance, then have some issues getting my nose pointed the right way, and then I’d crash.

After Paul assured me it was all about “attitude”, I figured I should really try again. The second time down, the snow was even more clumpy. I kept on thinking “ATTITUDE”. Then my edge got caught in a big o’l mound and I landed square on my face. Dizzy, and a little cold because somehow snow managed to find its way into my bibs, I finished the run.

I kept on thinking though “ATTITUDE”, and convinced Paul that we should try one more time. This time, I started going pretty fast… but still a little off-kilter from the previous run, I ran right into a mogul. My board stopped, but I kept on going, and WHAM!! I face planted again right into the snow. This time it was much harder and my goggles and beanie flew off. Until I stopped myself, I couldn’t see without my mask and powder flying everywhere. I have never laughed harder with Paul as he described what happened, while chucking my snow filled gear at me after retreiving it.

What fun!
